Sand casting

Sand casting belongs to the processes of „lost mould casting”, meaning that the lost mould is made of sand in connection with applicable binders. For shaping, a model or sample of the finished part is needed, which calls for special attention to material shrinkage.

To compensate for material shrinkage during fluid and solidification stages, one or more risers need to be attached. Cavities and undercuts are represented with the help of cores.
Usually castings are formed both ways, which is why the form consists of two molding boxes (upper and lower box). This way the mould can be removed before the actual casting process begins.
Additionally, lifting bevels have to be considered for not damaging the mould while removing the model. Finally, upper and lower molding boxes are accurately fitted together and fluid metal is poured into the sandmold.

Additionally to machine molded sand casting in so called “green sand”, we produce hand mold casting solely in KERNBLOCKVERFAHREN.
